knitting!

Guess what? I’ve been knitting again… And my camera is working again… And I’ve decided enough is enough on the neglecting my blog front… And I’ve missed checking in on all my bloggy friends…

So, details to follow on these projects very soon. But for now, here’s just a little teaser…..

around the house

Sonia started a meme on her blog the other day that I thought was lovely. The idea is to wander around your house one day, taking photos. Nothing too staged, just how things look on that day.

She suggested the following categories:

  • In the kitchen
  • On the nightstand
  • In your work/craft space
  • Out the window
  • What the pets or children are up to
  • On your feet
  • Knitting or knitwear in action

It’s an ‘I’ll show you mine, you show me yours’ type of thing. So, without further ado, here are mine. They were taken a couple of days ago, but I’m back in London and at work now, so that was my last chance to wander gently around my house for a while!

Steve preparing a casserole in the kitchen (luckily he enjoys cooking much more than I do):

On my bedside table (the Nancy Bush book was a Christmas present):

In my craft room (well, the place where I have been knitting over the holidays, which is a close as I come to a craft room! The yarn bowl was a Christmas gift, and those are two new projects I started last week):

Out of the window:

What my dog is up to (her – and my – favourite place isĀ  next to the Aga):

What’s on my feet (Pomatomus socks):

Knitting in action (actually, nearly all of these photos feature things I’ve knitted or sewn, which I must admit makes me rather happy!*):

So, go on, why not show us yours? Because we all like to see how other people live, right?!

*Maybe I need to get out more?

hemlock ring blanket progress

I am loving knitting this heavyweight lace blanket. It is destined to live on the plaid footstool on which it is pictured here, and I am really pleased with how the colours complement each other.

I made a bit of a mistake when I started the feather and fan part of the pattern, which meant that the pattern started in the wrong place on the star. I got as far as you can see in the photos before realising and ripping back to the central star pattern. But, this blanket is quick to make, and I have now caught back up to where I was before, so it’s really not a problem!

3286395304_e7f2426642_o2In other news, Michelle has been kind enough to nominate me for a kreativ blogger award – thanks Michelle! I’m not sure where to start with nominating other bloggers, there are so many that I love and am inspired by, so instead, following Sonia’s example, I’m going to point you towards the list of my favourite blogs. If you have some time to browse, I recommend them all as places I love to visit.

tinkering

Sorry if you’ve had trouble reading over the last day – I’m in bed with flu and have been tinkering with my site. I wanted it to look fresher and put more emphasis on the photos – I think I’m happy with it now!

A resolve, a complement, and a meme.

The Resolve:

Thank you for all your thoughtful, helpful and funny comments about Christmas gift knitting. I now feel that my loins are well and truly girded: I will remain strong in my resolve to knit as little as possible for anybody other than myself. I’ve decided that most of the items on my Christmas gift list are going to be transformed into birthday gifts, and will thereby be spread out over the year.

The Complement:

I am extremely flattered to say that both Susan and SweetP have nominated me for a Brillante Weblog Award. Thank you so much guys!

I need to pass this award on to seven bloggers, and this is where it gets hard. There are so many blogs that I love! I’ve decided to nominate people whose blogs I read and admire, but who I don’t think I’ve mentioned before. Check them out, they’re all excellent.

The Meme:

Susan also tagged me recently for a fun meme, and I thought it would be a good idea to combine the two.

Here are the rules:

  1. Link to the person who tagged you.
  2. Post the rules on your blog.
  3. Write six random things about yourself.
  4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
  5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
  6. Let the tagger know your entry is up.

So, here are six random things about me.

  1. I am terrified of heights. Or rather, I combine being terrified of falling off heights with an almost magnetic attraction to the edges of high places.
  2. I know all the plots of all of the Sherlock Holmes stories off by heart.
  3. I met my husband in the London Dungeons.
  4. I am ambidextrous.
  5. I have genuis-level spatial awareness. Seriously, I do. This ability has absolutely no practical use in my life except when packing the boot of a car, or when reading maps.
  6. I can put both big toes in my mouth at once – look, see how proud I am of myself?

And finally, the people I’d like to find some random things about are:
